Mirandomness,  Sewing,  Vintage Style

I’ve been in the throws of getting ready for vacation.  Fella and I decided to take our first real vacation off season to avoid droves of tourists.  Historically when we’ve traveled it has been to see family and friends or because the Fella has a conference in a city that sounds cool.  The former is fun.  The latter mostly consists of me sight-seeing while Fella works and while that is fun for me, it doesn’t do much for us in the way of quality time.

For 2016, we have decided to go to Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia.  Self-Stitch-September (which fell apart again, due to the Death Plague) means that I now have some lovely retro clothing to take with me.

The last night of our trip, we decided to have a fancy dinner.  To do a fancy dinner justice, I am making a fancy dinner dress from vintage Advance 8498.  I have really pretty sapphire colored, sheer, shirting fabric from my stash that I bought years ago.  It’s weight makes it perfect for the gathers in the skirt and bodice.

My second major October Projects is my Halloween Costume.  I’m not going to say anything other than it’s a peacock colored dupioni dress made from Butterick 5813 and costume appropriate accessories.   Again this is a stash busting project, because apparently I’m the kind of person who keeps 5 yards of peacock silk dupioni around JUST in case.

I’ve got catching up to do.  Hopefully there will be some progress pictures on Instagram and some dress posts next week.
