Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive
“Do you want me to build you a nest,” is a common refrain in the Modage. In all honesty, that is what the Modage is, for both the Fella and me. It is happy nest that we fill with beautiful things, rather like a pair of magpies or ferrets. Generally the larger Modage nest works very well. Other times, we require a bit more nesting.
2016 was a humdinger of a year, even when one ignores the loss of favorite artists and innovators. I lack the wisdom of ages, but I can honestly say that the divisiveness that is currently running rampant across the globe is nothing like I’ve ever seen before. It feels like a comment section has bubbled over into real life and civility, particularly of discourse, is dead. The lack of common ground is disheartening and depressing. A nest sounds very nice most days.
To beat back the creeping gloom and negative feelings, which is either The Nothing from Neverending Story or the pink goo from Ghostbusters 2, the Fella and I have decided to begin a small project. Enter the “Positivity Jar.” It is a simple exercise, that should pay dividends of concrete happy thoughts. Each week, the Fella and I have a nice cup of tea and ponder the positive of the week. We select something good that happened to us and write it on a slip of colored paper and put it in the jar. I hope that as the jar fills up it will be a visual reminder of the good things that we have in our lives, like Mock Duck.
Dinner last night was left over Mock Duck with steamed carrots and kale, sauteed in with a chopped up slice of bacon.
