    Valentine’s Tea with my Valentine

    The Fella and I are very into afternoon tea. It’s kind of a tradition for us, now. When we go on a trip, if there is a place to have afternoon tea (or places) then tiny sandwiches and scones will be consumed. We are also on the hunt for local places. We found a humdinger, the Hummingbird Bakery and Tea Room in the Woodlands, Texas. It’s rather unexpected, tucked into a nondescript strip center, that looks very much like many other strip centers in the greater Houston area.     Foodscape Phase 1: Complete…Mostly

    The Fella and I were able to make solid progress on Phase 1 of our foodscaped front yard. We obtained our blackberries and raspberries, which look more like twigs sticking out of the ground, but I’m optimistic. We also completed the majority of our flower box. My local nursery, Buchanan’s, was out of Mexican marigold, which is a plant very similar to tarragon, except Houston heat won’t kill it. We also need to get some mulch to keep in the moisture, as this bed dries out very quickly. We bought some inexpensive Bloem flowerpots from Lowes which I sunk into the bed to act as a barrier for my invasive…

    Eureka: A Lemon Tree!

    This summer, I spent five weeks in Redlands, California for Adolescent Montessori Training. Apart from the time away from the Fella, the Menagerie, and the Modage, it was one of the more rewarding experiences of my life. I met some of the most passionate and wonderful human beings in education, learned to be a better educator, and spent time in a truly captivating location. We were surrounded by mountains, under the bluest sky, and the air always smelled of grapefruits warming in the sun. There was also a lemon orchard, that we were tasked with cleaning and pruning.
